McCusker's Tavern
About This Spot
Stepping into McCusker's Tavern feels like slipping into a genuine neighborhood refuge where the rhythm is unhurried and the welcome is sincere. Nestled on S 17th Street in Philadelphia, this bar carries an approachable vibe that invites both familiar faces and curious newcomers to settle in and savor a moment away from the city's usual buzz.
The atmosphere here is quietly alive, shaped by the easy camaraderie shared between bartender and patron, the hum of conversation mingling with the occasional cheers from the sizeable wall-mounted TV tuned to a game. It’s the sort of place where time slows just enough for you to appreciate the small rituals of good company, a well-poured drink, and a warm hello from someone who remembers your name.
The offerings here aren’t just about quenching thirst; they’re a part of the experience—chilled beers that remind you of a well-stocked fridge, inventive cocktails served with a wink and a story, and a bar staff who know how to balance attentiveness with genuine social warmth. It’s not fancy, but it’s honest and unpretentious, much like the folks who call this place their regular spot.
Whether you’re winding down after a long day or gearing up for a game with friends, McCusker's feels like a natural extension of the neighborhood’s spirit—rooted, friendly, and quietly vibrant. It’s a place to belong, share a laugh, and maybe discover a new favorite drink crafted by hands that take pride in their craft.

Great stumble upon. Cash only, atm inside. Great bartender. Beer was cold enough to feel like it was stored on ice, which you don’t find often enough!!!! Big wall tv in there for your sports enjoyment.

Great neighborhood bar with some cool people to drink with. Didn’t get any food so sorry for the one star. Definitely will go back before or after a game. See you soon!!

Cool neighborhood bar. Bartender was friendly and helpful. Had a great drink but don’t know what it was called. It was iced tea, vodka, and a shot of Coke made inside the iced tea cardboard container. Would go back for drinks.

PHILADELPHIA, PA: we love ourselves a good dive bar and McCusker's Tavern perfectly fits the bill! The building has been an Irish bar since 1907 and McCusker’s took it over in 1968. You can feel the Philly pride in here - the walls are full of Philadelphia sports memorabilia, band posters, beer signs, and has the feel of a hometown bar. Jessie, the bartender, let us know that leashed and friendly dogs are allowed inside and that you can bring your own food (they formerly served food, but have since stopped). We had a great time watching college basketball on their big screen TV, checking out original game-used stadium seating from the now demolished Veterans Stadium, and played some old-school games in the back. They will have game nights weekly.

I'm from California, went for a Phillies game a few years ago... Awesome place to grab drinks before, and after a game. Wonderful hospitality, cheap drinks, great crowd. Bartender was awesome, and everyone was so welcome. Local corner spot that I will make sure to go to every time I go to Philadelphia moving forward.
